Ringo And Alexa Traffic Rank - How is it possible?

It's been a while since Ringo was shut down as we reported way back in June 2008 in this post
Ringo is Closing -- Ringo! Is Ringo Closing Down? The last time we checked it in July 08 and informed that Ringo is Closed Forever

The domain though is still registered and I wonder what do they intend to do with the domain next? It is registered until 2010 - so a while before the decision is made with respect to the domain name.

Funny part is despite over an year that the site has been down, Alexa ratings show this site to be frequented by visitors... OOOppssss some big flaw in the software with Alexa there, there are no more pages, than how come users give average page views of 1.5 :) Think about it!!!

Website Status: inactive

Alexa Trend/Rank:

  • 1 Month: 305,841
  • 3 Month: 270,337

Page Views per Visit:

  • 1 Month: 1.5
  • 3 Month: 1.5

Ringo is Closed Forever

Just revisited Ringo to see what all has gone, and in case you did not follow the news, or have been away from the net for a while, this is sad news. Everything is gone now ...

Home page is giving you choice to use other services like flickr etc for sharing online content and also links to myspace or facebook if you prefer social networking sites -- your choice.

Overall I didn't use the services much but I know others who were heavily using Ringo. While it's the masses that make Web2.0 sites a success by participation, isn't it sad that company has the final word to close or continue the services. It's a synergistic association between users and providers. Providers invest a lot to provide a platform for users, while users promote the services and platform by word of mouth, sending invites to friends and thus creating a user base which in turn generates revenue for the portal via advertisements. Should we users have a voting right or minor stake?
