Ringo is Closing -- Ringo! Is Ringo Closing Down?

Is Ringo Closing Down?
Going by email notice and update on site, it does appear that Ringo is closing - Ringo. If you are not aware of Ringo, that is OK, I don't know many many web sites or services available on the net eh!!! Anyways, if you want to know what Ringo is, it is Service that automatically stores and updates friends' and relatives' addresses, phone numbers, email, and birthdays.

Another one bites the dust? or so it seems, for all those Ringo fans, this is bad news. Apparently the video host provider has pulled the plug as per the communication received
"Videos uploaded to Ringo were hosted for us by a partner. This partner has decided to end this service and after June 30 videos uploaded to Ringo will no longer be available"

Below is the email I received from Ringo about closing their services

May 31, 2008 Dear Ringo member, After much consideration we have decided to end the Ringo service. As of June 30, 2008 the Ringo service is ending and you will no longer have access to your Ringo account. How do I get my photos? We created a new feature that will allow you to download your photos to your computer. Click here to download your photos. You may also order a CD of your photos. Just sign in to your Ringo account, click on the "You" tab, click" Order prints" and then "Photo Disks". How do I get my videos? Videos uploaded to Ringo were hosted for us by a partner. This partner has decided to end this service and after June 30 videos uploaded to Ringo will no longer be available. Thank you for being part of the Ringo community. A quick login to site and the announcement to close down the service shows up when you click Upload button. You can check it out without login to site as well, just in case you are curious to see it for yourself, simply click on upload and the message would show up which is identical to email I received.

However, I am surprised that this information is not visible on the home page? Not sure why Ringo has not provided the message to its homepage, when they have started to send email notification to all users?

Searched Google to see if I could get more information on this and one of the recent question posted on Yahoo Answers has the following input

"Hello , Thank you for contacting Ringo Customer Care. We are sorry for the mistake. This message should not have been on the Ringo.com site and has been removed. We are currently in the process of designing a photo archive tool which is why this message appeared in the photo upload section. In the event Ringo.com was to cancel the service, all users will have the chance to save all their profile photos to a zip file and download the file to the desktop."

This was posted 6 hours back, while the page on Ringo.com and email notification does indicate that the service is indeed shutting down.

So all those of you who are members of Ringo.com and have uploaded your pics and videos, I hope you would download your pics, send messages to all your Ringo buddies and groups and hope that you still remain in touch, with or without Ringo!

This also opens up opportunity for other photo hosting sites such as Flickr & Photobucket.

If you get updates, please let me know and feel free to post your feedback and update.

Cheers
