What Is New In WordPress 2.6?

What Is New In WordPress 2.6?

Of all forms of marketing available these days, from radio jingles, to commercials on the television, the world is increasingly switching to blogging to publicize information about self or their company. Blogging has gained popularity with individuals and businesses for being an easy platform to provide information over the internet. One reason why blogging software have become popular is because of its ease of use for new users. Most of blog software are easy to customize, run on all platforms as long as minimum requirement of scripting language and database is available & supported; and are fairly easy to install with few clicks!

After trying few other blog software, I have finally settled with WordPress now and what makes it my favourite software for blogging is that is is easiest to use. WP development team has kept pace with changes in technology, recent being introduction of sitemaps and now the latest change: WordPress 2.6 has been launched today with a host of new options that are certainly going to make your life easy. You may now post and edit your blogs even when you are offline.

What makes WordPress better than the rest? WordPress offers a WYSIWYG editor and AJAX-powered controls. UI if fairly attractive and easy to use, so you can update and manage your posts with user friendly and intuitive interface. Templates to change look and feel allow you to customize your blog and skin it the way you want, while third party plugins give you freedom to add, edit and modify new features on your blog.

Here is a quick view of the changes
  • More than 190 bugs fixed.
  • A new edit-tracking system introcduced. You can quickly review who made what changes to a post and when.
  • You can revert to older versions of a post.
  • v2.6 Offers a "Press This" bookmarklet to add to your browser. One click will extract the most relevant information from the page you're viewing and send it to your WordPress blog.
  • The most exciting addition though, is WordPress 2.6's support for Google Gears. A "Turbo" button resides in the upper right-hand corner of the WordPress administrative interface. What does Turbo help you with, you may ask? Well, you can now cache the most important files of the WordPress management console to your local hard drive, allowing you to keep blogging even when you've temporarily lost network connectivity.

WordPress is open source software, so it's free to download and install. The only requirements being PHP enabled server with MySQL database (both are open source). A good place to host your blog would be HERE with excellent services, low cost and for complete satisfaction and peace of mind.

Which software do you use for your blog? Have you tried the new features in WordPress? Do you feel WordPress is indeed better than the rest when you compare blog software? Do share your views and inputs and feel free to post your comments!!!
