Will we run out of IP Addresses?

Today I was wondering about future of IPv4 and how much truth lies in the rumour of IPv4 not able to sustain the rapid expansion of the net.

Since 1980 (? - it's been going on for a while isn't it :) ) it was predicted that the current 32 bit addressing method would get exhausted some day, as permutation and combination would allow only finite number of IP addresses on the network and thus on D-Day you wouldn't be able to get any more IP address. Does it make sense to go out and get a dedicated IP address for your website now? -- we would review that soon. With Network Address Translation the predicted day of exhaustion didn't arrive but the threat still looms round the corner that sooner or later no more IP addresses would be available. With this threat in mind, developers started working on IPv6 - or IP Version 6 which is to use 128 bits address scheme instead of IPv4 which is IP Version 4 and deploys 32 bits address scheme.

Would it succeed? What does it hold for you, your operating system and your website? Stay tuned as we would review these components in next post(s)

Let me know your views and share your thoughts!!
Cheers
